I got my start in sportswriting in the Land O’Lakes League, an amateur league in southeastern Wisconsin, comprising of close to forty teams. I worked covering the Oconomowoc Five-O’s in 1993-94 and got a taste of what it was like to write about baseball.
After I relocated to Pittsburgh in 1999, it was an invitation from the team’s webmaster to begin writing articles and covering the games I was home for that re-ignited the spark for sportswriting. The support I’ve gotten from those close to the team has always been gratifying, and the small contributions I’ve been able to make to the culture of amateur baseball remain among the most satisfying.
Undoubtedly, the O’s are all stilll off at the bars celebrating their stunning ninth-inning rally that won the Western Division pennant this year. But I’d like to take this page to briefly interrupt the party and give a tip of the cap to all associated with them.
